If you have any question about this policy or your data, contact us at the address above.
Precious is built so that your catalogue — every piece, photo, note and value you enter — stays with you: on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud. We have access to neither. We don’t run accounts, don’t track you, don’t show ads, and don’t use any third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. The only thing the app talks to our server about is the day’s gold price, and that request carries no personal or catalogue data.
What data the app stores, and where
Your catalogue
Every piece you add — its name, category, maker, material, karat, weight, monetary value, notes, dates, stones and any photos you attach — is stored on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. We do not have a copy of this data, cannot see it, and it is never transmitted to us.
iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device and iCloud is turned on for Precious, the app keeps your catalogue (pieces, photos, collections and stones) in sync across your own devices automatically. It uses Apple’s CloudKit, specifically the private database of your own iCloud account. The data then sits in your iCloud storage with Apple. We, the publisher, have no access to it and receive none of it. You don’t need a new account: the app uses the Apple Account you are already signed in with on the device. Storage in iCloud is governed by Apple’s terms and Apple’s privacy policy.
You can turn sync off at any time: in Settings > your name > iCloud, tap “See All” in the “Saved to iCloud” section and turn off Precious. Without iCloud the app works fully; your catalogue then stays on that device only.
Deleting your data
You can delete any piece at any time from within the app. “Delete All My Data” (Help & About > Your Data) deletes the whole catalogue on the device and, through sync, on your other devices too.
Deleting the app removes only the data on the device, not the copy in your iCloud. You can delete that copy in Settings > your name > iCloud > “Manage Storage”: choose Precious and delete its data. There is no copy with us that would also need deleting.
Photos
If you attach a photo to a piece, the app asks for Camera and/or Photo Library access, used only to let you pick or take that photo. The image is stored at up to 1600 pixels on its longest side, the same way as the rest of your catalogue: on your device and, with sync turned on, in your iCloud. It is never transmitted to us.
Export and inventory report
The CSV export of your catalogue and the PDF inventory report are created on your device. The file goes only where you send or save it yourself through the iOS share sheet.
Device and app diagnostics
The app’s Help & About screen lets you email us for support. You can optionally include a short block of diagnostic information — app version, iOS version, device model, device language and whether iCloud is signed in — in that email. This is opt-in per email, is never sent automatically, and is never collected by the app itself. We receive crash reports only through Apple’s built-in feature, and only if you have agreed in iOS Settings to share them with app developers.
App Store purchases
Precious is a paid download from the App Store and contains no in-app purchases. Your payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.
The one request the app makes to our server
To show you today’s gold price, the app fetches a small public data file from our own server at api.gnocchiapps.eu. This is a plain read — the request carries no catalogue data, no account identifier, and no data that identifies you personally.
For these requests our server does not log your IP address, user agent, referrer or query parameters. The access log contains only a timestamp, HTTP method, path, status code and response size, and is automatically deleted after 14 days. The gold-price response itself contains no personal data.
Tracking, analytics, advertising
We don’t use tracking, analytics SDKs or advertising. The app’s Apple-mandated privacy manifest declares this accordingly.
International data transfers
Our gold-price server is located in Germany. We do not transfer any data to a third country. If you use iCloud sync, Apple stores your catalogue as part of your own iCloud account; where and how is set out in Apple’s terms and privacy policy, and Apple may process data outside the EU in doing so.
Children’s privacy
Precious is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under data protection law (such as the GDPR), including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. Because your catalogue data lives only on your device and in your own iCloud, and we have no access to either, you already have full control over it: you can delete it in the app or export it as a CSV file.
For anything we actually hold about you, contact us at info@gnocchiapps.eu to exercise these rights.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. For us, that’s:
Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (BlnBDI)
Friedrichstraße 219, 10969 Berlin, Germany
https://www.datenschutz-berlin.de
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The current version is always on this page.
